| The main purpose of the Creative Arts League exhibitions has been to bring qualilty Contemporary Crafts exhibits to the Crocker since 1959. Providing excellent exhibits for the Crocker has been of tremendous benefit in drawing larger crowds to the museum. The Art of Gold show is a case in point, causing the Crocker to have their largest monthly turnout in their history. CAL has provided the entire cost of producing these shows, and in the past has designed and installed them as well. These shows have been the only venue for the presentation of quality contemporary crafts in the Sacramento area. Supporting our fund-raising efforts will enable us to continue this tradition.
CALS, in conjunction with its generous patrons and the Crocker Art Museum, have contributed to nearly a half century of shows of quality contemporary crafts at the Crocker Art Museum. This team effort has advanced the cause of local art and exhibitions in a number of ways. Among these accomplishments:
- 21 exhibitions of contemporary quality crafts from 1959 to date (most recent was the 2003 Art of Gold show)
- $323,654 raised since 1959 in support of these shows (thats over $800,000 in today's dollars)
- presented $50,000 to the Crocker Foundation, creating a special endowment supporting artwork in craft media
- funded the Crocker's exhibition of Clearly Art: Pilchuck's Glass Legacy

| CALS Supports Crocker Expansion |
Despite its distinguished history and currently successful operations, the Crocker Art Museum is struggling to meet the needs of a growing metropolitan region due to a number of weaknesses including:
- shortage of gallery space (less than 5% of the museum's collection currently can be viewed at any one time; large traveling exhibitions cannot be accommodated)
- no auditorium or dedicated space for programs
- no food service or cafe
- shortage of art storage facilities
- no loading dock or freight elevator
- heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems that are outdated
Crocker Art Museum is in the planning and early implementation stages of an exciting capital expansion project that will more than triple the size of the current facility, adding more than 100,000 additional square feet of space. Work is expected to be completed by 2008. Of particular interest to CALS is an addition of approximately 4000 square feet in new permanent galleries dedicated to ceramics and craft media including clay, textiles, glass, wood and metal. The proposed space will be located within the mansion wing. CALS is committed to raising the funds necessary to make this new gallery space a reality. |
